How CoAXium started

Colorado wheat producers asked Colorado State University (CSU) researchers for a new solution for controlling grassy weeds — weeds that were not only robbing wheat yield but also reducing the quality of their yield. This was no easy ask.

First, we identified a cost-effective, broad spectrum herbicide that works quickly and effectively on crop-debilitating annual and perennial grasses. Then our scientists at CSU developed and characterized an ACCase herbicide-tolerance trait that protects wheat varieties from the novel grass herbicide. The results provided the base of a new wheat production system that allows growers to produce more, higher quality wheat with less dockage and foreign matter. CoAXium is the only system available with limited soil residual, providing growers with greater crop rotation flexibility.

Plant. Spray. Profit. It’s that simple.

The CoAXium Wheat Production System combines stewardshipelite varieties and a superior ACCase-inhibiting herbicide with a patented non-GMO herbicide tolerance trait to bring wheat growers worldwide the most innovative and comprehensive technology for producing wheat. CoAXium, created by wheat farmers for wheat farmers, provides cost-effective, superior control of annual and perennial grasses, higher quality grain, increased yield and bigger profit margins.

Protecting our Earth and its resources should be a priority for every individual in every industry. The developers of CoAXium are actively focused on protecting the integrity of these new, farmer-inspired technologies.

To ensure the success and future of CoAXium, growers are required to use Certified seed. The quality and genetic purity of Certified seed ensures farmers get maximum performance from inputs and ultimately the strongest, healthiest crop.

CoAXium farmers must also adhere to the CoAXium Grower Stewardship Agreement outlining strict policies on product rates, crop rotation best practices and product use limitations over time.

CoAXium Wheat Production System

  • CoAXium is a non-GMO technology based on the new patented herbicide-tolerance trait for wheat: AXigen
  • The AXigen trait is available in varieties from both private and public breeding programs
  • A large and growing portfolio of CoAXium wheat varieties are available in winter and spring lines
  • Aggressor AX herbicides provide excellent crop safety with broad spectrum grassy weed control, including ALS (Group 2) resistant biotypes
  • Aggressor AX herbicides in the future will include broadleaf weed control solutions tailored to location production needs, providing growers with a complete weed control tool
  • Wheat growers and the entire ag industry have played a key role in the education, stewardship and long-term success of the CoAXium Wheat Production System
Background

Only superior varieties are part of the CoAXium Wheat Production System

CoAXium Wheat Varieties

Ready to plant? A diverse portfolio of premium wheat varieties are ready for use with the CoAXium Wheat Production System, including hard red winter wheat, soft white winter wheat and hard red spring wheat.

All CoAXium varieties are selected for their superior performance in the field over time and in many different growing environments around the globe — elite varieties produce elite harvests.

AXigen ACCase herbicide tolerance trait

If you want to truly understand the power behind CoAXium, think inside the seed.

The AXigen trait is the science behind better wheat. After years of research, the resulting AXigen trait is an ACCase herbicide-tolerance trait that protects wheat varieties from Aggressor AX, a herbicide that provides superior control of targeted annual grassy weeds.

Varieties with the AXigen trait (identified with an AX suffix) are tested again and again with Aggressor AX herbicides to make absolutely certain these two technologies work well together to provide both superior grassy weed control and variety protection.

Consistent control of damaging grassy weeds In wheat

Aggressor AX herbicide, first and foremost, is performance you can count on. Field after field. Season after season. Aggressor AX is the cornerstone of CoAXium and offers tough, unmatchable solutions for the toughest weeds. They are Group 1 ACCase inhibiting herbicides that inhibit activity of the enzyme, thereby eradicating susceptible grassy weeds. Aggressor AX provides consistent, broad-spectrum control of problem grasses like: Bromus species, feral rye, jointed goatgrass, foxtails, wild oats and volunteer cereals.

Used in conjunction with CoAXium varieties, Aggressor AX is a valuable new tool for consistent control of tough annual grassy weeds, including ALS-resistant biotypes. Aggressor AX herbicides provide growers with an effective mode-of-action, crop and chemical flexibility, and consistent, broad-spectrum grassy weed control.

The world of wheat has changed forever with the CoAXium Wheat Production System. Wheat farmers asked for a solution to yield-robbing grassy weeds, and CoAXium delivered with cleaner fields and higher yields.

“This new technology was asked for and is owned by Colorado wheat farmers. Several years ago, the wheat producers of Colorado approached Colorado State University looking for a new solution to combat the grassy weed problems faced by Colorado wheat growers each year. Not only did it have to work better than what was commercially available, but it also had to be cost-effective. The CoAxium Wheat Production System delivers on that vision.”
